10 Rock Stars Who Absolutely Hated The Music Business

5. Kurt Cobain - Nirvana

From the first moment that Smells Like Teen Spirit hit the airwaves, life was never going to be the same for Kurt Cobain. While he may have wanted to be a big rock star playing the music he wanted, he never wanted the baggage that came with it, becoming the voice of a generation and turning into an icon for alternative music overnight. That kind of pressure could wane on anyone, so you could imagine how it would feel for someone with a hole in their soul.

Despite his massive success off of Nevermind, Kurt already had harsh things to say about his greatest work months after it was released, calling it too slick and thinking that it sounded closer to Motley Crue than punk rock. We wouldn't hear his real venom for the industry until In Utero though, sounding absolutely drained as he talks about feeling bored and old after making his millions off of teenage angst on songs like Serve the Servants and Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle.

Even with settling down with his family, that hole in Kurt's heart was never full again, feeling like a hollow shell during Nirvana's final tour and eventually committing suicide in between legs of the tour when he escaped from rehab. Fame can be fun while it lasts, but no one really seems to mention the amount of miles that it can put on your soul as well.
