10 Rock Stars Who Absolutely Hated The Music Business
4. Freddie Mercury - Queen
During Queen's heyday, Freddie Mercury seemed to run towards the spotlight like an Olympic sprinter. The world's stage seemed to be just small enough for him to fit on, and having the audience in the palm of his hand every single night is where he tended to feel the most uncomfortable. The stage might have been safe, but it was a diferent story when the papers decided to write whatever they wanted.
Going through every business aspect of the industry, Freddie was absolutely miserable dealing with the lawyer crowd, especially when the band weren't getting paid by the manager off the success of records like Killer Queen. Things weren't much better in the press though, with most newspapers looking to know more about the man's sexuality than any of the music he was making, always speculating as to who his partners were and trying desperately to find the real man underneath all of that stage getup.
Freddie did have his stage as a tool though, and would spend some of his time in between songs bad mouthing the press whenever he could, from slipping it into lyrics like the songs Death on Two Legs and Scandal to saying that any newspaper that talked about Queen's demise was talking out of their ass. You can write whatever story that you want to about the man's wild years, but Freddie was always a kind soul who would try to stomp out anyone who got in the way of him doing what he did best.
