6. "I Still Love You" from Creatures Of The Night, 1982
When Creatures Of The Night arrived with all of its promise of being a metal album the genre was exploding on a variety of fronts. When it was released my best friend and I went through it from front to back repeatedly on his audiophile quality gear and while we were generally happy with the direction of the album we did have a major major disagreement over this song. He absolutely hated it, characterizing it as a pointless, bloated and vile addition to an otherwise fine album. I thought, and still think, that this is quite possibly Paul Stanley's best vocal performance anywhere and one of the finest examples of a power ballad you'll ever hear. Stanley's impressive vocal range is used to its fullest advantage on this one and even if, like my friend, you ultimately hate the song, the quality of performance compels you to give Mr. Stanley a grudging nod of the head or tip of the cap.
