Pulp Fiction is known widely for being one of the most effortlessly cool films of all time, and within that universe there are few characters cooler than mob fixer Winston Wolf (played to perfection by the incomparable Harvey Keitel). Time has apparently not been that good to him though, because these days he has had to go legit. Apparently his idea of fixing things now is helping middle class white families replace their small stolen consumer items. You can see what the marketers at Direct Line are trying to do. Theyre trying to tie themselves to a cool character that is technically a bad guy, because audiences are so in love with anti-hero characters on cable television. But taking an icon whose impact is multiplied by the fact that he is only in the film for a handful of scenes, and wheeling him out twenty years later for an uninspired and frankly unoriginal commercial campaign reeks of desperation.
