Jack Colback's impending transfer to Newcastle from Sunderland will make him the first player since Lee Clark in 1997 to directly cross the Tyne-Wear divide. Lionel Perez does not and never will count incase you were wondering. In moving to St James' Park the Killingworth-born midfielder will become the 59th player to wear the distinctive stripes of both clubs and put himself in an exclusive bracket alongside the great Len Shackleton and many others who've spent a portion of their career stationed in both Tyne and Wear to varying degrees of success. And it would be remiss to overlook Bob Stokoe who won the FA Cup during his playing days with Newcastle in 1955 and triumphed again 22 years later, this time as the manager at Sunderland in that famous toppling of the mighty Leeds at the old Wembley. In reverse, Sam Allardyce played for the Black Cats in the 1980's and later managed the Magpies, albeit unsuccessfully for eight months. Others, like the perennially awful Michael Chopra, have failed to sparkle although we should't be too hard on 'Rocky', After all he did deliberately bottle the opportunity to score a late winner against Newcastle in 2009 on home turf in the red and white of Sunderland. But there are a good number of players who've made the successful transition between Tyne and Wear and, in our humble opinion, these are the top 10.
