Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball. This may not be a bold statement considering that Kershaw is the reigning National League MVP and Cy Young award winner, but with so many talented pitchers in baseball you just never know. Kershaw's career stats are already incredible and he's just 27 years old. He's already won the NL Cy Young award three times and now he's got a ridiculous contract that pays him an average of $30.7 million per year. He deserves every penny even though people that don't know baseball might complain because he might only start 35 times in a year. He finished last season 213 with a 1.77 ERA in 27 starts. He led or was near the top in every major statistical category. A lot of times if a pitcher wins MVP people complain, but with him most people just agreed that he deserved it more than anybody else. Where Kershaw needs to improve is in the postseason. Last year his Dodgers had high expectations and he was terrible. They need to figure it out if they get in the playoffs again, which they should considering their ridiculous $270 million payroll that gives them the most expensive roster by far. Kershaw should be motivated to repeat last year's stats, but also to have a significant postseason that can only add to his legacy. Look out for David Price of the Tigers as the AL Cy Young winner. He's playing for a long term contract. That's always a good source of motivation.
