The Claim Faced with a rival bid by Middlesbrough - then of the Premier League - for Rob Lee, Kevin Keegan pulled off the brilliant master-stroke of convincing the player that Newcastle was closer to London than Boro. Fortunately, Lee believed him, landing Newcastle the greatest bargain of all time, and the player an unfortunate name-tag as a bit of an air-head. The Truth To Lee's credit, the story is mostly exaggerated for poetic effect. The player himself has subsequently denied that he is a moron, admitting that Keegan simply said that it was a lot easier to get from Newcastle to London than it was from Boro, thanks to the transport links. Sadly, the story is a lot more engaging when you think he just didn't ever bother looking at a map, so it's bound to be perpetuated for some time.
