This year's Champions League final will be an all-Madrid affair as cross city rivals Real and Atletico grapple for the elite club crown. Millions of eyes will be concentrated on the Estadio da Luz on Saturday to watch the Spanish heavyweights duke it out to be crowned Champions of Europe. For anyone associated with Newcastle, however, just the thought of qualifying for the competition again is enough to provoke celebration from Toon supporters never mind the idea of actually going the distance and delivering the famous old trophy back to St James' Park. Imagine the scenes! In actual fact we've housed many a European Champion in years gone by, some who've arrived carrying a winner's medal n their pocket while others have resolved to leave Tyneside and chase the impossible dream. Who are they, you say? Well we endeavoured to delve into the history books and pulled out the names of twelve players to win the Champions League and also wear a black and white shirt.
12. Davide Santon
Played For NUFC: 2011 - Present. Appearances: 81, Goals: 1 Won Champions League: 2010, Inter Milan Inter Milan's triumph in the 2009/10 campaign saw Santon become one of the least deserving recipients of a Champions League winners medal in the competition's history. Bewilderingly the Italian left-back was awarded with the coveted gong despite clocking just 10 minutes worth of pitch time for Inter when he came on as a substitute during the goalless draw with Barcelona at the San Siro on match-day one. He was an unused substitute on three occasions and wasn't even included in the Nerazzurri squad by Jose Mourinho for the final against Bayern Munich but still had the chutzpah to accept a medal, which was rendered utterly meaningless by his complete lack of involvement. Still, he holds the distinction of being the only current player in the Newcastle dressing room to have won Europe's elite club contest.
