Nine months on from the Tyne-Wear derby disaster of 2013 surely Newcastle would have the bit between their teeth and have their phasers set to revenge. Wishful thinking. For a second year running Sunderland skipped out of St James Park and back to Wearside with three points and three goals under their arms. Only this time their victory was all the more comprehensive. Again it was a simple case of Sunderland being up for the occasion. Passion and pride are prerequisites for a derby contest and the Black Cats continue to exhibit that in abundance when they come face-to-face with their black and white neighbours. Weve failed to match their desire in each of the last three meetings, losing each of them, and continue to wilt under the psychological pressure of the occasion. It didnt take much for Sunderland to profit from our insecurity or an egregious lack of motivation. Nothing short of insulting.
