Of course, it would be impossible to exclude an Englishman in a list of badly taken penalties, and who could forget this one? In the Euro 2004 quarter final, England battled it out with Portugal for a place in the semi final. With the score level after extra time, the winner had to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Up stepped David Beckham. Surely, he of all people would find the back of the net. But we all know what happened €“ England€™s captain blasted his penalty high into the stands, missing the target by some distance. Never mind David, it was only the Euro€™s!
