2. Jaap Stam

Possibly one of Manchester United's most revered centre-backs, Jaap Stam fell out of favour with Fergie in 2001 after Stam released his autobiography which contained comments about fellow team mates and a claim that Ferguson made an illegal approach for him whilst playing for PSV Eindhoven.

Sir Alex acknowledged that letting Stam leave for Lazio for £16.5m was a 'mistake' but after the revelations of Stam's autobiography and a poor performance in United's 3-2 victory over Fulham, Ferguson had another dramatic dressing room showdown and the Scot would have been more than happy to accept Lazio's bid for the 30-year-old defender.
