Another player being strongly linked with the Toon is the Lyon striker Gomis. Reports are suggesting Newcastle have already made contact over the French international and its easy to see why. Gomis has managed double figures in Ligue 1 for the last seven seasons and once more is available at a good price. Gomis seems to be another player surplus to requirements at his current club with them wanting to take a different route. The striker apparently wants to join Newcastle due to their already large French legion of players and he could be the perfect fit. Strong and able to score a variety of goals, Gomis could compliment the current squad beautifully. With the like of Ben Arfa playing behind him, Gomis is a smart runner who will put chances away. Reports in The Daily Mail this week are suggesting that Lyon are making huge demands for a player with just one year left on his contract, so Newcastle are playing a waiting game to get Lyon down to their estimates but he could still be available for £8 million. Gomis wants to be part of Frances squad for the World Cup in Brazil and his desperation for first team football could mean he will push through a move. Despite the initial contact though, it seems to be a long way from done with interest from Marseille and Tottenham rumoured.
