Yoan Gouffran might have been a little higher up on this list had it not been for instances such as his foot-in-mouth moment against West Ham last month in which he missed an absolute sitter a yard out from goal. There are some who say the say the France international lacks a killer instinct but that would be a harsh assessment considering the vital goals he has scored for Newcastle in the past, such as his winner at QPR in the penultimate match of the campaign list season, effectively keeping the Magpies in the Premier League. Though occasionally guilty of squandering gilt-edged opportunities, there's no doubting his commitment and energy levels, which has helped him become one of the few players to have featured in all four matches so far this season. And if he can bring more goals to his game, there's no reason why he can't get his name bumped a little further up lists such as these in the future. Gouffran was bought for £2 million from Bordeaux in January, just a few months after playing against Newcastle at St. James Park in the Europa League.
