Updated: WhatCulture can confirm that Newcastle United will have a new home shirt at some point in the not so distant future. The club will also have a third shirt but don't go calling it a "European shirt". We heard an August 1st launch date for the home shirt was likely and nufc.com also posted about this but Puma have been in touch to tell us that a release date for the shirt has not yet been confirmed. Original article is below; Newcastle United have announced that they will launch their new home shirt for the 2012/2013 season on August 1st, 2012. Pre-orders can be made right now at Soccer Box (though not yet on the official Newcastle United club shop), though no images have yet to be released depicting what the new kit looks like. We don't expect an official reveal of the shirt to be revealed until mid-July at the earliest, though that is just speculation on our part. Newcastle United revealed their new burgundy red away shirt for the new season last month and is already on general release. You can purchase that shirt from the club shop right now. The Magpies will also reveal a third kit sometime this summer. For the first time in over five years, this third kit will officially act as a "European Away Shirt" as opposed to just a third kit as it has been since Newcastle were last in Europe but the club still thought it necessary to have a second alternative away shirt. Attention Newcastle United fans - Lifelong fans Matt Holmes and Peter Willis, the co-owners and founders of What Culture will be launching a dedicated Newcastle United blog at www.toonarmy.co.uk from Friday June 1st. The blog will contain opinions, features, match previews, reports all in their unique and passionate voice for the like-minded die-hard Geordie. Bookmark it today.
