Bit of a cheat this one, but I could have easily put most of Tottenham Hotspur's summer transfer business on this list. Whether you believe that Andres Villas Boas had little control over the transfers of the club or not, someone managed to spend the £85 million for Gareth Bale and an extra £20 million on several players who haven't really improved the Spurs squad significantly (with the exception of Vlad Chiriches, maybe). Both Soldado and Lamela had good reputations in Spain and Italy respectively, Soldado having a goal every 2 games ratio with Valencia. They both cost around £26 million and were thought to be players who could fit straight into the team to solve the lack of goals and creativity on the pitch. Alas, it hasn't quite turned out like that. Soldado has been a flop, scoring only 5 times in 21 appearance in the Premier League with the majority of those goals coming from the penalty spot. He seems utterly devoid of any kind of confidence and appears to be snatching at all of chances, maybe from a realisation that he gets much less time on the ball now. The fact that Tim Sherwood has chosen to entrust Adebayor to lead the front line now instead of the summer acquisition says a lot for Soldado's time at White Hart Lane. Lamela is a completely different story. He is still only 21, which must never be forgotten, but he hasn't even impressed enough to be given the opportunity to fail (or succeed). He has only played one full game of 90 minutes this year and has featured in 8 others, providing 1 assist. He has been injured for the last couple of weeks and Spurs fans will be hoping he doesn't turn into the next David Bentley.
