I was excited. Genuinely excited, when I heard that Chelsea had finalised the deal to sign Samuel Eto'o and bring him to England and Stamford Bridge. This is a player who has won the Champions league, top scored in the competition, scored over 100 goals in La Liga and also won the treble with 2 different teams. His goals are showcased everywhere and his finishing deadly. That he was joining a Chelsea team who didn't have a recognised, effective striker meant he would get plenty of playing time, as long as the post 30 player could still play that many games in one season. People were stating that he would be the missing piece in Jose Mourinho's title pushing puzzle. 6 goals in 16 appearances this season beg to differ. The hat-trick against Manchester United aside, he has simply followed in the footsteps of Torres and Ba before him by struggling to be the focal point of a truly wonderful attacking midfield at Stamford Bridge. Maybe people should have learnt with Andriy Shevchenko; that just because a player has multiple goal scoring records and trophies in another country, it doesn't mean that they are going to thrive in England.
