Sunderland 2-2 Southampton: Manager Reaction And Player Ratings

Sunderland Player Ratings

Vito Mannone: 7 - Not his best performance since joining the Black Cats, but did contribute well at times to prevent it from being more than two conceded. Phil Bardsley: 5 - Gave the ball away a lot, particularly early on. Supported Johnson well at times but a game to forget for Bardsley. Marcos Alonso: 6 - Started off shaky and often outnumbered, but soon adapted. Has the potential to become an important player. Lee Cattermole: 6 - Failed to impress yet again and Jack Colback could keep him on his toes for a place in midfield. Must improve. John O'Shea: 6 - Consistent as always but didn't get stuck in as much as we know he can. Wes Brown: 4 - Very sloppy in the first half and was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch. Adam Johnson: 8 - Didn't get into top gear as quick as he did last week, but another superb individual performance from the man of the moment. Sebastian Larsson: 4 - Poor again and seemed to get everything wrong. Booed off by Sunderland fans too. Jozy Altidore: 5 - Nothing major was fed to the American but another player with another disappointing performance. Ki Sung Yeung: 6 - Quiet day for the Korean, clearly capable of better. Booked for a silly challenge too. Fabio Borini: 6 - Took his chance well to score and at a good time of the game, but apart from that slightly disappointing. Jack Colback: 7 - Turning into a fans favourite and a much better option to Seb Larsson. Needs to be starting in midfield. Craig Gardner: 7 - Gave the game something different and his presence certainly turned the game on it's head. Assisted Johnson's goal too. Steven Fletcher: 6 - Right decision to come on for Altidore but didn't make much of an impact. Looks a shadow of the player he was last season.
