Sunderland vs Man Utd: 5 Changes Moyes Must Make After Appalling West Brom Defeat

4. Play Fellaini And Carrick Together

Fellaini was expensive, too expensive in many peoples opinion. Many critics have labelled him not good enough for the United team, but whilst he is not ideal, he does have some very positive attributes which Manchester United can utilise. United have not had a strong midfielder in his mould since the ill fated spell of Hargreaves. Employing him in a defensive midfield role enables Carrick the freedom to pull the strings and dictate the play. He's probably our best aerial threat as well and giving that the majority of United's goals have come from set pieces, this needs to be a big consideration. He is certainly not perfect, his pass completion rate is somewhat below what is expected in a top central midfielder and he lacks the dynamism and stamina of Yaya Toure or even Flamini. These attributes will improve though, the passing especially. Moyes does not have the luxury to leave him on the bench, he cost a lot of money and while he has divided critics he needs to unequivocally be a starting 11 player for the time being.
