Vidic and Ferdinand have been, arguably, the best Central defender partnership of the Premier League era. Vidic the typical bruiser against a more defined colleague in Ferdinand. In wrestling the championship back from Mourinho's Chelsea, these two were as important as the mercurial talents of the Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez trio. I have not jumped on the bandwagon, labeling both players past it due to age and injuries, I simply believe that playing them together is no longer a tactical feasibility. Basically, they are too slow. Manchester United have been playing with a low pressing line to compensate for the threat of a counter attack. What this does is bring Carrick, Rooney and Van Persie back towards the middle of the pitch. Rooney and Van Persie are not the paciest of front men and all this does is allow the opposition to regroup, severely hampering the midfields ability to be creative. Vidic and Ferdinand should play, in every game if possible, but not together, Jones or Evans should be given the chance to establish themselves as a first choice centre back. They have the pace to compensate for Vidic and Ferdinands deficiency whilst Vidic and Ferdinand have the positional ability to combat their inexperience.
