West Ham 3-0 Fulham: 5 Things We Learned

By Simon Collings /

3. Fulham Need To Invest In Their Squad

Not one of the Fulham players crowned themselves in glory against West Ham on Saturday and it brings about the realisation that the squad needs investment. The full back area in particular seems to be a cause for concern. Kieran Richardson is not naturally a left back and the former Manchester United academy graduate sturggled all game to cope with Downing. At right back, summer signing Elsad Zverotic does not look as though he is up to the standard of the Premier League. The 27-year-old Montengrin arrived at Craven Cottage from Young Boys during the last transfer window, however he has hardly added solidity to Fulham's leaky defence. The Cottagers have now conceded 24 goals this season, meaning they are tied with Sunderland for having the worst defence in the league. Whether Jol stays as Fulham boss or not, whoever is in charge must ask new owner Shadid Khan for some transfer funds to invest in January.
