5. The Stolen Earth

The return of Rose Tyler and her reunion with The Doctor had been built up significantly throughout Season 4, until finally the moment came when we received exactly what we wanted. Until we didn't. It's a perfect tease that is built up throughout the episode, with numerous obstacles placed in the way from getting the reunion we crave.

The final moments of the episode sees The Doctor and Donna finally arrive on Earth which has been occupied by Davros and his army of Daleks. As he looks around at his surrounds, he sees a familiar figure in the distance. Of course it's Rose, and the moment when they begin running towards each other is as beautiful as we all had dreamed(well this writer anyway!)

Then at the very moment that the couple go to embrace one more time, comes a shocking moment that stops the romantic reunion in its tracks- a waiting Dalek shoots the Doctor! Captain Jack arrives to take out the Dalek and Rose is there to comfort him, but it is clear that the Doctor won't survive without a regeneration. It comes as a massive shock and before one wonders if the whole situation is going to be expositioned away, the Doctor regenerates in front of our eyes.

On top of this unexpected moment, several of the doctors companions finds themselves in the crosshairs of Daleks with seemingly no way to escape. It is breathtaking stuff and the resolution in the subsequent episode is handled wonderful while still giving us a bit more time with our beloved Doctor. Oh, and we also get the reunion after all!
