Time Lord also seem to have some trouble creating proper minions, or at least the ones composed of anti-matter do. Omega's first set of minions in The Three Doctors were hardly impressive, but they at least looked like they could be dangerous - if you were diabetic and mistook them for mounds of candy, that is. The Ergon, though, produces a reaction that is less "Oh my god, a monster, let's run and hide!" and more "What the hell is that thing?" That may account for why Tegan and her cousin just stand there and let it shoot them with its scary anti-matter ray thingy. Maybe they were just too afraid of what it would do if they laughed in its face, as Tegan is trying not to do in the image above. So, what exactly is that thing, anyway? A genetically enhanced chicken? A pigeon that Omega augmented to the point that it could understand nuclear physics? Whatever it is, it's a lucky thing we don't have to see much of it in this story - though those scenes on Gallifrey aren't exactly any less laced with cringe, either.
