5. Whizz Kid - The Greatest Show In The Galaxy (1988)

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you... It was no secret that John Nathan-Turner had no great love for the more vocal fans of the show that he'd been producing for almost a decade, and in the final story of the show's next-to-last original season, he allowed a story to feature a character that deliberately made fun of them. A year later, the show went into indefinite hiatus. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? In retrospect, there's no other reason for a character like Whizz Kid, the self-proclaimed "biggest fan" of the Psychic Circus, to be here except to let him (and, by proxy, those annoying fans) to be killed horribly. It's a tribute to the former Adrian Mole himself, Gian Sammarco, that Whizz Kid is not more annoying than he actually is, it's still quite difficult to sit through any of his scenes as a fan and not feel uncomfortable. Maybe because we've all said variations of "It's not as good as it used to be, but I still watch it" at some point in our lives?
