10 Lost Doctor Who Episodes We'll Never See

4. Marco Polo

The second fully missing episode is Marco Polo, William Hartnell’s fourth serial. Another purely historical adventure, this serial was the first episode of Doctor Who where the Doctor and the TARDIS team met a figure of history.

The whole concept of Doctor Who by its creators Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman was to teach children aspects of history they may otherwise have had no idea about. Marco Polo was the first of these stories.

The serial is heralded for its beautiful set and costume design as well as its use of a diverse cast, something other serials have been criticised for not achieving.

Its first episode, the Roof of the World, is the earliest broadcast episode of Doctor Who to be missing, as well as this being the earliest full serial to be completely missing. Like the previous entry, and with all missing episode of Doctor Who, the audio of the story still survives. However, there is also no news as to whether this serial will be animated.
