10 Most Disappointing Doctor Who Episodes

4. The Power Of Three €“ Series 7 Episode 4

The Problem For about forty minutes, The Power Of Three is excellent. The slow invasion is a strong concept, UNIT are given a solid revamp, and it€™s jam packed with good character moments. The problem is the last five minutes. The Shakri€™s plan starts in force, the action shifts to their ship€ and the Doctor solves everything in seconds with a quick twirl of the Sonic Screwdriver. We never even see a real Shakri. Just a pre-programmed hologram of one, completely wasting Steven Berkoff€™s performance. It€™s a supremely rushed and lazy ending that completely drags down the rest of the episode. How To Fix It Make it a two-parter. That€™s all it needs. Disregarding the last five minutes, it feels like it€™s the first of two episodes. And it seriously needs a second episode since the way the slow invasion is written is as a story of two halves. First comes the months upon months of waiting; allowing for character development between the Doctor and the Ponds before their final episode, and to whet the viewers€™ appetites for an action packed resolution. It would also allow for a deeper exploration of the Shakri€™s reasons for wanting to wipe out the human race and provide a chance to actually show them in the flesh instead of a recording, giving the Doctor something tangible to play off and act against. It would also remove the need for such a ridiculously swift resolution to the worldwide series of heart attacks caused by the Shakri€™s cubes.
