5. David Bowie Will Abduct Agatha Christie

Over the last 15 years, it's become a Doctor Who tradition for each series to feature a crop of famous faces in supporting roles.

From Simon Pegg in The Long Game to Maisie Williams in Series 9, it feels like Doctor Who can get pretty much anyone it likes, so it's not really surprising that there are constant rumours about who might be next in line for a TARDIS trip.

That being said, it's quite surprising when these rumours come hand-in-hand with some curiously specific and highly unusual details, which is exactly what happened in the run-up to Series 4, which aired its first episode in April 2008.

According to this rumour, singer David Bowie was set to appear in a two-part story in which he would "abduct" Agatha Christie, while facing off against David Tennant's Doctor. Apparently, Bowie was considered because of his "other-worldly looks", which, admittedly, is an assessment that's hard to disagree with. Just look at this guy.

While Bowie is a fantastic actor (see The Prestige for proof), his Doctor Who role never came to pass, and since he died in 2016, it can't ever happen in the future, either.

Interestingly, this rumour did get the Agatha Christie part correct: the legendary writer appeared in Series 4's The Unicorn And The Wasp, although she wasn't abducted.
