10 Most Ridiculous Doctor Who Rumours Ever

4. Harriet Jones Will Return As A Dalek

The return of Harriet Jones (former Prime Minister) in Series 4's The Stolen Earth was a big, delightful surprise, allowing the character to exit the Whoniverse on a high note after the Doctor had her deposed in The Christmas Invasion.

In the episode, it's revealed that Harriet has developed the subwave network, a communication system that allows her to contact the Doctor's allies (Martha Jones, Captain Jack, and Sarah Jane Smith), and ultimately, contact the Doctor himself.

In short, Harriet returned as the normal, heroic, human character we had always known, but a truly bonkers rumour claimed that this wouldn't be the case at all.

Back in March 2008, The Sun ran an article titled "PM is Doctor Who Dalek", stating that Harriet would become "the daddy of all Daleks" at some point in Series 4:

"In a shock moment on the BBC1 sci-fi hit, the casing of one of the metal monsters opens to reveal the ex-PM has been converted into a tyrannical pepperpot. A source said: 'It’s a stunning highlight of the series. Penelope was smuggled on to the set to try to keep the storyline a secret.'"

This rumour then spread around various fan forums, with one annoyed user joking that showrunner Russell T Davies must've been "snorting crack" when he wrote it.

Ultimately though, all of this nonsense was proven false, and we feel pretty confident in saying that Davies was never planning for Harriet to return as a Dalek.
