10 Ways Your Favourite TV Shows Will Probably End
3. Rick Dies, But His Family Is Safe - The Walking Dead
Will The Walking Dead ever end? It's currently in its seventh season, and nowhere near caught up with the graphic novels on which it's based (it's around the early 100s, the comics are at 160). With creator Robert Kirkman saying the graphic novels could go to 300 issues or more, there's a lot left for the series to adapt. Combined with its huge popularity, it's no wonder the execs have spoken of going to Season 12 and even beyond then, almost unprecedented for a show of its ilk.
But surely it can't go forever? The idea of The Walking Dead reaching Season 20 seems ludicrous. Even the notion of 12 seasons is highly ambitious, if more achievable.
At the same time, though, there's no apparent end in sight, and there hasn't been for a long time. Not since Eugene's plan to go to Washington and develop a cure - which was all a lie - has there been a hint of finality to the series.
That said, The Walking Dead is Rick's story above all else. Yes, it's a survivalist tale and about hope versus despair, but it all ultimately comes back to Rick Grimes. He's the centre of this universe, and it'll die with him.
He's almost certainly making it to the series finale, whenever that is, and taking Carl and Judith along with him. I don't envisage a cure - the show is too nihilistic for that - but at least some safe haven. Free from walkers and human threats, a place his children can be secure - for a while at least - is when Rick will die (maybe he's old, maybe he's bitten saving his family), and The Walking Dead will go with him.
