15 British Sitcoms That Americans Loved the Most

2. Absolutely Fabulous (1992-present)

What is there to possibly say about this show that others haven't already said? Borne from a sketch on the French & Saunders show, Jennifer Saunders took an already genius idea and ran with it. Featuring Saunders as the outrageous Sloane Ranger Edina Monsoon and Joanna Lumley as her drunken doped-up pal Patsy Stone (aka Eurydice Colette Clytemnestra Dido Bathsheba Rabelais Patricia Cocteau Stone), there's a few very clear reasons why this program (or programme in British parlance) is still on the air and churning out new episodes, and it has precious little to do with the fact that Pats and Eddie have become gay icons unto themselves, or even in spite of themselves. Aided by Julia Sawalha as Eddie's straight-laced daughter Saffron, the legendary June Whitfield as her mother, and recurring roles by Christopher Ryan as her first husband Marshall, Christopher Malcolm as gay second husband Justin and Gary Beadle as his partner Oliver, Mo Gaffney as Bo Christmas and Eleanor Bron as Patsy's mother, not to mention cameos by Lulu, Britt Ekland and couturier Zandra Rhodes, every episode is as brilliantly crafted as a museum piece in the National Gallery.
