The Tenth Doctor's swansong in The End of Time was naturally one of the most epic Doctor Who stories to date and thankfully this was complimented by the ominous presence of Timothy Dalton who served as the foreboding Narrator of the two-parter's opening installment. Viewers had to wait until the very end of the episode to find out who he really was, though, when it was revealed in one of the most climactic cliffhangers of all time that the booming voice actually belonged to Rassilon, Lord President of the Time Lord, himself. Suffice to say, it all escalated rather quickly after that. It was a revelation that had the nation on the very edge of their seats and as the end credits rolled on Christmas Day 2009, nobody really knew what quite to make of all the ensuing drama. None of us saw the long awaited return of Rassilon - and not to mention the Time Lords themselves - coming but it was inevitable, really, seeing as the Tenth Doctor had previously been told that "it" was coming back. As it turns out, "it" was referring to Gallifrey but thankfully even our preconceptions didn't manage to distinguish the overall significance of this momentous moment. It will go down in history as the first time the Time Lords were seen on screen in the revived series and they couldn't have picked a better story to affirm their presence within the NuWho mythology.
