7 TV Shows That Improved In 2019 (And 3 That Got Worse)
2. The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead was a show that had simply done the same thing for far too long, and as a result, it grew stale midway through its fifth season. Yes, there were flashes of brilliance throughout seasons 5, 6 and 7 but by the time Negan showed up and turned everything into a cartoon, it lost its last few remaining shreds of momentum. So when Andrew Lincoln announced he was leaving the show, it truly felt like it was time for it to end.
However, the show took a risk and used Rick's departure to drastically change things in Season 9, taking a time jump and exploring new stories (and finally changing the damn weather). It was a change that started at the end of 2018 and continued into this year as the show once again found its voice.
The narratives were more engaging, there were little-to-no dull character-specific episodes and it finally snowed. And even though Season 10 hasn't exactly matched those heights, the show still feels so much newer than it has in years - and that's an achievement that simply can't be overlooked.
