Doctor Who: All Doctors Ranked From Worst To Best

13. The Sixth Doctor - Colin Baker

Best Episode: Vengeance On Varos - The acid bath might be nasty but there is an intriguing moral story in there. Worst Episode: Timelash - The universally hated of all Doctor Who episodes. With his technicolour dream coat and surly nature, the Sixth Doctor is surely a Doctor of great contradictions. Colin Baker's Time Lord tends to get a bad rap and that is really rather unfortunate. Listen to any of his Big Finish audios and the Sixth Doctor really shines. Perhaps its because you can't see that horrible coat? The trouble with the Sixth Doctor is that he had too much of the First Doctor's grumpiness without much redeeming qualities. He started his life by strangling poor Peri and finished off his career muttering the terrible line "carrot juice". In between, he was a smug, superior Doctor that audiences failed to connect with. Also his scripts contain some rather horrible moments, making his stories quiet uncomfortable to watch. Colin Baker never got his wish to play the Doctor for as long as Tom. With better stories and a different look, he could have been brilliant - try the Big Finish Davros as a taster for what could have been. Sadly he was fired by the BBC and didn't even get to film his regeneration.
