5. Pulling A Fast One On The Family Of Blood
The Oncoming Storm. That's the name for the Doctor when he is at full strength and angry enough to live up to the namesake. During the events of Human Nature and the Family of Blood, the Doctor is reduced to human form, becoming the mild-mannered school teacher, John Smith. This allows him to hide his Time Lord energy from the deadly family, though also dooms much of the English countryside to war.
While the Doctor may have fixed things a little earlier than he is able to, it takes the sacrifice of John Smith before is able to. It takes a lot of convincing, but the Doctor's human form accepts his fate. This allows the Time Lord to enact a cold victory over the family.
He arrives on the ship, masking his scent from them, seemingly hitting buttons onboard at random. Then, turning on a dime, he tells them that he has set the ship to self-destruct. He had run away out of mercy, hoping they would change their ways.
The revenge that he enacts on the family of blood remains one of the darkest moments in the history of Doctor Who.
