7. Captain Lundvik

It€™s difficult to create and portray an unsympathetic character with underlying compassion and understanding. Captain Lundvik from €œKill the Moon€ is mired in a thankless role. She is the voice of the earth€™s survival instinct €“ the part of us that would do anything to live without regard to the consequences. Yet she does not descend into a caricature of a rigid military mindset. She does not take pleasure in another being€™s destruction and she is not comfortable with the unexpected power she is given. She is, however, willing to make an agonizing decision and does not back down. Whether you agree with Captain Lundvik€™s position you cannot help but respect her passion in delivering it. She does not hate or fear the creature she condemns. One has the sense that the creature€™s destruction will haunt her for the rest of her days.
