Doctor Who: 10 Most Fascinating Characters Of Series 8

By Mary Ogle /

4. Danny Pink

Danny Pink is doomed from the start but not because he dies in the end. His potential as a character is squandered in an effort to create a shocking reveal of his tragic past. Danny Pink is a wasted opportunity but intriguing none-the-less. Samuel Anderson€™s heart-felt performance is defined by an air of world-weary pathos. This is a man wrapped in scar tissue and it would serve the story better if his secrets were revealed gradually rather than ignored until the end of the season. The relationship between Danny and Clara never feels real. Neither person is being honest with the other, creating an obvious distance between them. Is the romance relevant to the story? It contributes little to the overall plot and often seems forced. Danny is set up well and every time he appears one wants to spend time with this broken man and get to know both his triumphs and demons. Yet he is never allowed to fully develop and that is a shame.
