It only feels like yesterday David Tennant was doing battle with the Sycorax in his first full length adventure as the Tenth Doctor, The Christmas Invasion, which was also the show's first foray into the coveted realms of festive TV. Since then the titular Time Lord has been lighting up our screens each and every December and he's been facing robot Santas, giant spiders, wooden creatures and his own personal demons along the way. Time really does fly when you're in the TARDIS as Last Christmas was his tenth annual yuletide outing to date and if you were worried that it wouldn't be able to maintain the momentum of previous years, you were no doubt quickly proven wrong. This year's seasonal special was as Christmassy as they come (the picture alone can vouch for that - a sleigh ride of London? Come on!) with another ambitious script from Steven Moffat and a stellar line up of guest stars - more on them later - which was topped off with a fantastic direction from Paul Wilmshurst. If nothing else it proved that Doctor Who is far from running out of ideas and it affirmed its place as the centrepiece of the BBC's Christmas festivities. Not that there was much doubt about that before.
