7. The Return of the Time Lords€ For Good!

THE WISH One of the good and bad things about the new series is that Gallifrey and the Time Lords are gone. This is good because it means we don€™t have stories that get drenched in Gallifreyan politics and weirdness, and because we get to see the Doctor as the last of the Time Lords. But it€™s bad because there are a ton of interesting stories that can be done about the planet and its people (€œThe Deadly Assassin€ for example). Now from €œThe End of Time€ we know that the Time Lords are locked away, still alive, but unable to get back into the show€™s reality. They came back briefly in that episode, but then went away at the end. I€™d love to see a story where they get brought back for good. Something where the Doctor is able to finally defeat Rassilon (who in my dreams has regenerated and is now played by Pierce Brosnan), and bring his people back into the universe. This then opens the new series up to Gallifrey stories, and gives them an excuse to show Leela, Romana and one or two versions of K-9, thus giving it a connection to the older series. ODDS OF THIS HAPPENING Not great. Perhaps around 25% or so. Davies was pretty committed to the idea of the Doctor being the last of the Time Lords, and while Moffat has done much to undo some of the€let€™s call them €œmissteps€ of the Davies era, he hasn€™t touched that element of it. Changing it by bringing back Gallifrey would be risky. But then again, Moffat has been, especially this season, moving the show back to the idea that the Doctor is just a guy in a blue box who travels around space and time. Making him, once again, one of an entire population of Time Lords would really bolster that idea. So while I think this is unlikely to happen, I certainly think it€™s possible and would fit in nicely with what Moffat€™s doing so far.
