Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Just Didn't Give A F***

10. Calling Back The Aliens For A Scolding, As You Do

No TARDIS, no sonic screwdriver, and two minutes to spare.

What an absolutely convincing first win for the Eleventh Doctor! Well that was nice and simple, I guess they can all go hom-' wait a second what’s he doing now? Oh sure, let’s just call the big flying alien eyeball that was threatening to burn the entire planet back to Earth just so you can give them a scolding.

This is the primest of the prime examples of the Doctor showing off, especially for his new companion who clearly has a bit of hero worship for him already. Eleven's on an adrenaline high from his win over Prisoner Zero and doesn’t even stop to think about the potential consequences of pushing things too far with the Atraxi. It probably wuld have been better – and certainly safer – to just take the win, but y'know, Doctor's gonna Doctor.

On the plus side things did all work out fine in the end and we did get an all-timer of a scene from Eleven, one that properly cemented him as the Doctor and has remained iconic ever since. And yes, it is really cool to see the Doctor with that bit of swagger.

But for Eleven, in a way this was the beginning of the end. Getting too cocky, making himself too big – it's this sort of stuff that would come back to bite him in A Good Man Goes To War and beyond, forcing armies and religious movements and villainous alliances to rise up in fear of him, which ultimately culminated in his regeneration on Trenzalore.

Still though. Telling off a giant eyeball. Hell of a way to introduce yourself.
