2010 marked the highly anticipated arrival of Matt Smith as the next Doctor and he had a new companion in tow, too. Enter Karen Gillan as Amy Pond whose tenure in the TARDIS would turn out to be as timey-wimey as they come.. and then some! It's no exaggeration to say that Amy's relationship with the Eleventh Doctor was a rollercoaster from start to finish and Amy's eventual departure was a bittersweet affair as she bid farewell to her beloved raggedy man in exchange for a normal life with her husband Rory Williams. Not only was the Doctor and Amy's dynamic unique in the sense that he first met her when she was a young child but the Time Lord was also indirectly responsible for the birth of Amy and Rory's daughter River Song who would eventually grow up to marry him and kill him (but not necessarily in that order) so it was quite literally a case of keeping it in the family with this lot. Seriously. It all got very confusing at one point. Towards the end of their travels, Amy and Rory were in the process of maturing which involved an ongoing debate regarding their future with the Doctor. After a series of on/off travels, the decision was ultimately made for them in Series 7 when a fateful encounter with the Weeping Angels would bring an end to their TARDIS escapades for good. Rory was zapped back in time and Amy followed suit after an emotional farewell with the Doctor which is sure to go down in Who history as one of the show's most memorable and heartbreaking companion departures. The girl who waited got what she wanted in the end and there wasn't a dry eye in the house as she muttered the immortal worlds, "Raggedy man, goodbye". This time, it really was.
