Doctor Who: 11 Most Memorable Companion Exits Of The Last Decade

By Dan Butler /

4. Rose Tyler (Journey's End)

The Stolen Earth and Journey's End is one of the most memorable Doctor Who finale two-parters for a variety of different reasons but for many the show was stolen by the long awaited return of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler. The momentous moment had certainly been prepared for which a string of cameo appearances dotted throughout Series 4 which paved the way for her eventful comeback in Turn Left. The fact she was back again, though, meant she would have to leave again, too. After aiding her fellow Children of Time in their battle against Davros and his almighty Dalek race, Rose finally got cthe fairytale ending she deserved when she was given her very own unique happily ever after in the form of the Tenth Doctor's half human, half Time Lord metacrisis counterpart. To cut a long story short, this version had been spawned from Donna Noble and the Doctor's spare hand (it wasn't as creepy as it sounds) and Rose was given the chance to start anew with the love of her life - and at last this one could say it back. While this wasn't to be Billie's final appearance in the series (she made a fleeting return in The End of Time and then again most recently in The Day of the Doctor), it's the last time fans saw the "present day" Rose and it will probably be the last time they'll ever see her, too. She's happy now and there's really no need to revisit her. She'll be keeping herself busy defending the parallel universe - and no doubt having lots of babies - and that's good enough for us. It's a memorable departure for the beloved character because it was the Doctor's way of showing her just how important she really is. Rose was haunted by self doubt during her tenure in the TARDIS but this serves as the ultimate compliment. She has the potential to impact the lives of the people around her and she's just as important to the Doctor as he is to her. As you've probably already guessed, this won't be the only Rose Tyler exit to be featured on the list. Her original departure in Doomsday will also get a look in but in true timey-wimey style it will come after this one, so take this as a warning to get your tissues at the ready. It's a-comin'!
