Forget Daleks or Cybermen. When Neil Gaimans around, the real enemy is the budget. Possibly as a by-product of being such a talented and ambitious fantasy author; Gaiman has had to cut various moments from both episodes he has written so far because they just weren't affordable. But even though The Doctors Wife was subject to a number of alterations because of budget, one cut that wasnt about the money was a scene with Amy in the Tardis swimming pool while House (the episode's villain) controlled the Tardis. While this scene most likely would have fit into the episode considering the other cuts made to it, it had to be dropped for a very practical reason: Karen Gillan cant swim. This would have made shooting the scene incredibly difficult so it was dropped, presumably in favour of additional scenes in the Tardis corridors. These scenes presented no such problems as they were dialogue-focussed and filmed on a set that, in the tradition of Classic Who, could be used as multiple corridors and was later reused in A Good Man Goes To War as part of the Demons Run set. The swimming pool would eventually appear in Series 7s Journey To The Centre Of The Tardis but only as a digital matte painting. A cut that was a result of the budget however was the original version of the Valley Of Half-Eaten Tardises scene. In earlier drafts, the remains of the Tardises were disguised as random bits of junk until Idris (being connected to them) deactivated their Chameleon Circuits, allowing the Doctor to start assembling a makeshift Tardis.
