5. The Time War

The effects of aggression and war on the psyche have been touched upon throughout the Steven Moffat era. In series 6 we learn that the doctor€™s legend is morphing from healer to warrior and we examine what steps the Doctor takes to change that. In series 7 we learn that hiding from the responsibility of power brings about its own set of consequences. Will series 8 dig deeper into the Doctor€™s more personal experience with the horrors of war? The appearance of the John Hurt Doctor would suggest so. We know very little about the Time War at this point. It€™s been established that it was a horrific conflict which threatened to destroy the universe until the Doctor found a way to end it. Apparently that depended upon him committing genocide against his own people. It would be fascinating to explore some of the actual events of the Time War though I personally don€™t believe it would be a good idea to reveal too much about it. The Doctor€™s power as a character is centered in his mystery. He is essentially unknowable. A glimpse into his life as a soldier however would certainly be illuminating.
