Doctor Who Christmas Special: 10 Reasons To Be Extremely Excited

3. New Companion

Here it is, the reason you€™ve all been waiting for. Yes, this Christmas we will, of course, be properly introduced to the Doctor€™s new companion, Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. The connection between this new character, Clara, and Jenna€™s other role Oswin Oswald in this year€™s €˜Asylum of the Daleks€™ is being kept well under wraps but we may well find out soon €“ or we may well not, as this is coming from the mind of Steven I€™ll-Only-Tell-You-Who-River-Song-is-After-Three-Years Moffat. We can gather some aspects of her character from the trailers and assorted clips that have been released, however. Clara seems to be a governess to two young children €“ who somehow knows about the Doctor already €“ she€™s feisty and assured and, as every companion must, she kisses the Doctor. Also, most interestingly, she seems to be actually Victorian. It€™s been an unwritten rule of modern Doctor Who that the companion as an audience identification figure must be from contemporary Earth. It seems this time we€™re in for something different.

2. New Start

With a new TARDIS, a new companion and perhaps a slightly different Doctor, the show is once again wiping the slate clean and starting again €“ something which is always exciting. If you€™re a fan of Doctor Who and enjoy following it through all its many changes and progressions or someone who perhaps lost track with the storyline of the previous couple of years, this episode represents a fresh start. In short, it€™s a great jumping on point for everyone.
