3. Pay Attention To The Cracks In Your Armor

One of the more intriguing things about this episode is the glimpse we get into what lives inside of an Ice Warrior€™s armor. The €œsurvival suits€ we all construct to protect us also serve to isolate us from others. We hide behind our masks and armor, presenting a constructed and therefore false face to the world. It is interesting that without his armor Skaldak does not only appear more vulnerable, he is also more frightening and deadly. With his protective shell stripped away he feels exposed, less secure. He is more apt to make decisions based on panic than reason and thus he is much more dangerous. Similarly, the soldiers are more liable to react out of desperation and fear when their veil of rules and regulations is laid bare to the reality of a situation that was never accounted for. The Doctor is more liable to counter his insecurity with creativity. Exposure is unsettling but also revealing. We are forced to think outside our self-constructed walls.
