Doctor Who: Every Russell T Davies Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
37. The Legend Of Ruby Sunday/Empire Of Death
The 2024 season’s finale wasn’t much better than its opener.
The Legend of Ruby Sunday essentially just recaps everything we already know about Ruby’s past, without really moving the story forward. Though it does have a killer cliffhanger (if you can look past the daftness of the Sue Tech/Sutekh “anagram”).
Then Empire of Death just throws everything at the wall, in the hope that something will stick – from the Doctor rewatching Pyramids of Mars in a TARDIS full of old props to the magical road sign appearing on Ruby Road. None of it makes any sense!
The biggest insult of all? It’s a toss up between Sutekh being redesigned as a giant CGI dog and Ruby’s birth mum turning out to be… a random woman?!
Rather than wrapping up the season in a satisfying way, it just makes you wonder why you bothered.
