And if one day you should see me in the crowd Lend a hand and lift me To your place in the cloud. €“ lyrics from €œCello Song€, by Nick Drake When Clara confronts the Doctor about what we could possibly be to him he doesn€™t deny that we are all ghosts, only that we mean nothing. When the Doctor talks with Professor Palmer about his war service, Palmer acknowledges his role in sending people to their deaths and that he feels the weight of their ghosts around him. Palmer senses a kinship with the Doctor, telling Emma Grayling that he has the trappings of a military intelligence officer. What if the Doctor still is one? The Time War has not really been explored in Doctor Who, only touched upon. Could the Doctor, in some way, still be fighting it? Is that why the Silence is so afraid of him? We€™ve all assumed the Time War is over but is it? Can it ever be? Perhaps the Doctor has temporarily suspended it, but is it possible that it could erupt again? In the Who universe ghosts are never really ghosts. They are aliens without physical form, or people trapped in another dimension, for example, but they aren€™t dead people. The Doctor carries with him the ghosts of Gallifrey but what if the Time Lords haven€™t really been destroyed? Could they come back?
