2. Change Is The Only Constant

Its interesting that in a show that is all about change the TARDIS power source is something that has been arrested and is forever in stasis. The Eye of Harmony is a dying sun caught in the act of collapsing into a black hole suspended in a permanent state of decay. In music, a recurring motif throughout series seven, harmony can mean either balance or support. All parts of a composition work together in balance to create harmony. Singers use harmony to support the main theme of a piece. With the Eye of Harmony, the Time Lords have achieved the perfect balance between decay and collapse, and used that energy to support time travel. Theyve harnessed change. The Doctor is an agent of change. He does not suffer fools gladly and yet he believes that everyone is redeemable. When he realizes that Gregor is on the cusp of remorse he deliberately turns to him and tells him to never forget his new-found concern for his brother. After all, time can be rewritten. At the very beginning of the episode we are shown a picture of Gregor and Bram with their father. A part of the photo has been torn away. At the end of the episode, after time has been reset, the photo has been restored with Tricky once again a part of the family group. Gregor even defends Tricky from Brams bullying, reiterating how completely he has been changed by his experience.
