9. Locking A Heart And Throwing Away The Key

When Clara is faced with the loss of Danny she gives up. She doesn€™t activate his emotional inhibitor to allow him to answer the Doctor€™s questions but because she wants him to destroy her. She wants to end her own emotions. It€™s brave of Steven Moffat to honor the depths to which an overwhelming grief may bring us. The sight of Danny€™s face encased within cyberman armor is chilling. The horror of a deceased loved one returning in a form that remains out of reach is well played. The Doctor€™s emotional reaction to his inability to find Gallifrey is startling. We are used to his determined insistence on preserving his poker face yet he cannot maintain the façade in the light of the Master€™s betrayal. He lashes out in fury, violently attacking the TARDIS and collapsing with heartbreaking cries of anguish.
