Danny Pink, schoolteacher and potential love interest for Clara, is introduced to us in a curious way. He is playing at soldiers with some of the boys from his class and is later questioned by them as to whether hes killed anyone in or out of war. He is shaken and teary-eyed and intriguing. While the Doctor has yet to meet Danny he makes it clear how he feels about soldiers in his interactions with Journey Blue and her compatriots. The Doctors harsh assessment of the soldiers is interesting if not hypocritical since he was one himself. Is it his own self-hatred for his past actions that determines how he treats these desperate people? He scoffs at the colonels rigidity and immediate leap to violence and yet he is more than willing to sacrifice a man for his own cause when they are inside the dalek. Self-righteousness is a dangerous thing, and a trap the Doctor has fallen into before. To be certain of what is right is to blind ones self to other courses of action.
