6. The Hermit

The Hermit card represents a teacher or wise man in humble disguise. Perkins the engineer is an intriguing character. He is set apart from the others by his working class appearance. Yet he is clearly brilliant. This does not go unnoticed by the Doctor, who quickly enlists Perkins as his second-in-command. Perkins recognizes the Doctor€™s brilliance but is wise enough to understand the ramifications of traveling with him. It€™s too bad we may never get to see a companion like Perkins. What a fascinating dynamic between those two. The Doctor would be forced to up his game as a man like Perkins is less easily taken in by casual manipulation. Imagine if he had stayed even as a recurring character. We could run into him every once in a while as he knocked about the TARDIS.
